07901 . . . We Are One!
I had the privilege today to participate in Summit High School's Human Rights Day. Teacher Don Standing has led this media & literacy program connected to his colleagues' discussions in classrooms for a number of years. The Summit Educational Foundation has funded this program since its inception.
This year, Shaping Summit Together had the privilege of co-funding it with SEF and will fully fund it hereafter. It is an amazing program whereby notable and accredited photojournalist, Ron Haviv, came to Summit to show the amazing photo displays of his sojourns into war-torn regions, most recently in Cairo at the historic moment of change.
Mr. Haviv sees his purpose in photo-journalism in this multi-media age to be the "eyes and ears" of injustice, suffering of innocent people and a means to awaken youth and adults to the opportunities to put their personal best foot forward FOR justice and respect for others. By standing up and letting elected officials know your views on complex geographical, theological and political complexities in the world, a young person - any person - can let people in power know their sentiments of support for the right diplomatic solutions and other strategies to bring about positive outcomes. Discussions will happen throughout the day today.
Shaping Summit Together is proud to be the continuing supporter of Human Rights Day at Summit High School!
