Summit High School makes Human Rights Day an ongoing part of a connected curriculum
I had the privilege today to participate in Summit High School's Human Rights Day. Teacher Don Standing has led this media & literacy program connected to his colleagues' discussions in classrooms for a number of years. The Summit Educational Foundation has funded this program since its inception.

SST Announces Spanish-language Features on Website
Shaping Summit Together is pleased to announce the addition of Spanish-language features on our site.
In Blog de la Communidad Hispana, our Latino-Hispanic Cultures Advocate, Celine Benet will blog with Spanish speaking members who can respond to her and to us about topics in need of two-way dialogue.
In Summit Cultural Heritage Center/Recursos en espanol, we will post important information in both English and Spanish.

SEF Partners Night a Tremendous Success!
It is one thing to talk about the exciting projects the Summit Educational Foundation (SEF) funds in the classroom, and yet another to experience them first hand. On October 22, 2010, SEF held its annual fund fall fundraiser, Partners Evening, in support of teacher and district grants. The evening is an opportunity to learn more about SEF and grants already in place throughout our Summit Schools.
Hispanic Cultural Heritage Day Proclamation 2010
On October 5, 2010 over 180 people gathered to hear Mayor Glatt deliver a Proclamation stating that October 5th is to be Hispanic Cultural Heritage Day in Summit. The Proclamation was read in English by Mayor Glatt and in Spanish by Celine Benet. Youth and adult representatives of 18 of the 21 Spanish-speaking nations held their country flags and country names with pride as all recognized and pledged allegiance to the American flag.
Summit Educational Foundation Announces Endowment
Private funding, once a staple of exclusive educational institutions, is now finding its way into local public school systems from Newark to Summit. Click here for the full SEF press release
Mayor Glatt and Celine Benet Give Unifying Message to Hispanic Community
At the October 5th Proclamation of Hispanic Cultural Heritage Day, Mayor Glatt and Celine Benet ushered in the warmth of mutual understanding and commitment to celebrate unique cultural identities between and among Hispanic community members of unique Spanish-speaking national heritage and non-Hispanic community members. Summit Board of Education celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
The Summit Board of Education will present a special event entitled: "Heritage, Diversity, Integrity and Honor" to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month.
Date: October 21st
Time: Reception at 6:45pm featuring Summit High School marimba ensemble. Meeting begins at 7:30pm
Location: Jefferson Primary Center, 110 Ashwood Avenue
All members of the community are invited
